Dr. John Hoekstra, born on March 12, 1965, in Oskaloosa, IA, grew up on a family farm near Lake Red Rock, west of Pella, IA. After graduating from Pella Community High in 1983, he worked as a truck driver for six and a half years before deciding to pursue a career in chiropractic. He completed his undergraduate studies at DMAC in Ankeny, IA, and Park College in Parkville, MO, before earning his chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA, in June 1996.
Dr. Hoekstra began his chiropractic career at Ericson Chiropractic in Rantoul, Illinois, before establishing A Ave Chiropractic in August 1998. He later rebranded his practice as Hoekstra Chiropractic and moved it to 401 South Market in 2007, then to 1003 South 18th St in 2020.
On April 14, 1999, he married his wife Kelly, whom he had met a decade earlier while performing with his band. Outside of work, Dr. Hoekstra enjoys restoring cars, taking his two English bulldogs on motorcycle rides, and spending quality time with Kelly, their son Mathew and daughter-in-law Alisha, and their three grandchildren: Michael, Harley, and Brecken.
